Our Scholarship program aims to develop capacity for academic research at multiple levels within the education system.
From making high quality undergraduate education accessible for students from marginalized communities and impoverished families through supporting doctoral programs in empirical research, our goal is to develop grassroots capacity for scientific temper and data driven policy making in the areas that we work.

Our goal is to make high quality education and training accessible to students of limited means.

We fund academic scholarships at institutions who train students to develop skills in empirical research with a focus on transforming public policy in the areas of public health and civil liberties. Grants are made directly to the institutions who then identify and select the right candidates as recipients of the scholarships.

Past Grants

Thakur Foundation announces a grant to the Centre for Mental Health Law & Policy, Indian Law Society, Pune to establish a repository of information to support the Central and State Governments in the implementation of the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017, India Mental Health Policy, 2014, Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 and other state-led policy initiatives such as the District Mental Health Program to be named India Mental Health Observatory (IMHO).

IMHO will develop an institutional mechanism to collaborate with a range of stakeholders including policymakers, mental health professionals and civil society to collect and collate data, research and metrics on mental health services at the national, state and district level with the goal of promoting evidence-based policymaking for bridging systemic gaps in the provision of mental health services and advancing mental health in India.
